Natural Resources
There are abundant marine chemical resources, petroleum and natural gas resource in the surrounding area of THIP where the seawater with 3.5% salinity is suitable to manufacture salt and distill more than 90 chemical raw materials including potassium, lithium, bromine, saltpeter etc. The Changlu Salt District located on the west coast of Bohai, is an important sea salt manufacturing base which now is under the domination of Hebei Province and Tianjin according to the current administrative division. Tianjin Salt District lies in the middle of Changlu Salt District, bodering TEDA, Free Trade Zone, and reaching Huanghu City and Fengnan County of Hebei Province in the south and north ends respectively. There is vast tidal flat with flat ground. The annual average salinity of the surface seawater along with the bay is about 28-29% and the concentration of seawater is about 2.5-3 baume degree. Tianjin Changlu Salt District is one of the largest sea salt origins in the country. Here the sea salt is famous for solid grain, pure taste, white color and good quality. It was called as "Lutai Jade Sand" and was the tribute to the loyal family in ancient time. Compared with other types of salt (well rock salt), it has unique taste which is more appropriated in industry and civilian use. Tianjin Changlu Salt District is one of the marine chemical industries cradles in our country. With years of development, the marine chemical engineering products of the Salt District form into potassium, bromine, magnesium and saltpeter series with more than 20 varieties among which the main products are rewarded with National Silver Medals or Excellent Product by the Ministry of Light Industry for many times. In Tianjin Changlu Salt District, there are two famous large sea salt manufacturing enterprises—Tianjin Changlu Haijing Group Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Changlu Hangu Saltern Co., Ltd. It possesses salt field with 325 square kilometers and the crude salt output reached 2.301 million tons in 2005 which took up 5.2% of the total crude salt output of the country (44.547 million ton).
Simultaneously, within Tianjin, the petroleum geological reserves reach 3.9 billion ton and reserves of natural gas amounts to 201.4 billion m3 among which there are 3 billion ton of petroleum geological reserves and 130 billion m3 of natural gas in China National Offshore Oil (Bohai) Oilfield and the rest petroleum geological reserves and natural gas reserves are left in China National Petroleum Dagang Oil field. In 2005, the crude oil output of Bohai Oilfield reached 12.836 million ton while that of Dagang Oilfield amounted to 4.993 million tons and the total yield quantity is 17.829 million ton which occupied 9.9% in the total output of crude oil of the whole country (180.84 million ton).
There are vast wild land and tidal flat to be utilized on the coastal area of THIP. The project will not occupy the agricultural land. The coastal line is mainly slush structure without sand beach which is proper to develop the industrial layout and to provide rich soil resource for the construction of the chemical industry Park.
Tanggu District, where THIP is located, occupies 63 km2 of inland waters with vast development space for various water amusement projects. There are abundant water products in the area. The coastal tidal flat is vast and smooth: the high tidal flat is abundant with crabs; the middle tidal flat is the natural breeding area for fishes, shrimps, crabs and shells, suitable for artificial culture and seining; low tidal flat is the fish and shrimp migration zone with rich marine fishery resources. The Bohai prawn and swimming crab are famous at home and abroad. There is bright future for marine artificial culture and tourism and food and beverage industry with seafood features.
There are abundant resources of geothermal and hot springs. The geothermal water reserves of Tanggu reaches 43.49 billion ton with 65o-78o outlet temperature. Recently, more than 30 geothermal wells of 2,000m have been excavated in Tanggu with annual exploiting water quantity of 5 million cubic meters. The share of "seawater" and "hot spring" is the unique advantage for Tonggu tourism with great potential.
